Red Ginger was the brainchild of Elizabeth Chen, who after working for a few years as a commis chef in one of the leading hotels in Kuala Lumpur, decided to open a restaurant. Together with her sister Karen, they started the first Red Ginger in Plaza Damansara, Bukit Damansara.

Gaining rave reviews from their customers and growing in popularity, they now have a second outlet located at the North Point Offices at Mid Valley City. The restaurant with its classic sliding wooden and glass door is rich with wooden accents and on its walls are handsomely framed bowls and Nyonya artifacts.
Both outlets serve Nyonya and Penang cuisines. Though popular for their stir-fried and soup items, they also have other ala carte options which are just as mouth-watering.

Among the offerings are the Red Ginger Salad, Yam Cake which is popular among Nyoya food lovers. The steamed Otak-Otak is a must-try as it is the Chens’ grandmother’s recipe. The first outlet’s signature dish is the Ipoh Hor Fun which no doubt will be the second’s given how all their customers took to the flavoursome chicken stock with a pleasant tease of white pepper. Another favourite is the Kam Heong Kuey Teow which was specially concocted with their very own Kam Heong paste recipe.
